PETALUMA (KRON)--One person is in custody following a shooting that occurred during a Department of Homeland Security operation that injured three agents in Petaluma early Thursday morning.
A witness tells KRON 4 that at about 4 a.m., multiple shots were fired in the residential area located behind the Best Western hotel located near South McDowell Boulevard and McNeil Drive.
Homeland Security officials say that Immigration and U.S. Customs Enforcement agents were serving a high-risk warrant related to an ongoing investigation at a home behind the hotel.
One person was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and a second person was airlifted by helicopter. Police say the agents' injuries are not considered life-threatening and one person has been taken into custody.
South McDowell was closed between E. Washington and Maria Drive while authorities investigated the shooting. Authorities said there was not an immediate threat to the public.
