SAN JOSE (KRON)--A woman riding as a passenger in a Toyota Camry is dead after the car was crushed by a big-rig on a San Jose on-ramp Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a preliminary investigation indicated that the big-rig was speeding along a curve on the on-ramp from eastbound McKee Road to northbound Interstate Highway 680 when it went out of control and fell onto its side, crushing the Camry.
Two women were inside the car at the time of crash which was reported at 9:57 a.m.
Police say the passenger in the Camry, a woman in her late 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Camry's driver and the big-rig driver were both taken to hospitals with minor injuries.
A Sig-alert was issued at 10:29 a.m. and both the eastbound McKee Road on-ramp to northbound I-680 and the northbound I-680 off-ramp to westbound McKee Road are closed. CHP says the ramps are not expected to reopen until around 2 p.m.
