East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Approves Station Closures, Layoffs

CONTRA COSTA CO. (KRON)--Several firefighters will be out of jobs just as fire season gets underway now that the East Contra Costa Fire District Board has approved the closure of three stations.
The decision to close the stations comes after voters rejected Measure S, a $197 parcel tax plan which would have maintained service and generated $100 million over the next decade.
As a result, 16 firefighters can expect to be let go with layoff notices scheduled to go out on June 15.
