REDWOOD CITY (KRON)--As many as 27 residents have been displaced by a three-alarm apartment blaze in Redwood City overnight that authorities are calling suspicious.
Officials say firefighters responded to the fire at 523 Stambaugh Street just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Deputy Chief Stan Maupin said the fire involved multiple cars in the eight-unit building's carport and extended into two of the building's apartments.
Maupin said many of the apartments sustained smoke damage however all but two apartments destroyed by the blaze are expected to be habitable again soon.
"The building itself is going to be occupiable in the near future, just not tonight," Maupin said.
Officials say firefighters had the fire under control within an hour and two dozen residents of the building are being assisted by the Red Cross.
