SAN MATEO (BCN) -- A three-year-old girl wandered away from her family and drowned in a nearby lagoon Saturday afternoon, according to San Mateo police.
The girl's family called 911 around 4:15 p.m. to report the girl
missing from their apartment on the 1500 block of Day Street, San Mateo
police Sgt. Dave Norris said.
Police searched for the girl with her family and located her in a
nearby lagoon, floating unresponsive. Police and paramedics performed CPR but
could not revive the girl, and she was declared dead at the scene.
The San Mateo County Coroner's Office will take over the
investigation into the death, which appears to be a tragic accident, Norris
said.
