PACHECO (KRON) -- Two people are in custody after what authorities describe as the largest illegal fireworks bust in Contra Costa County history.
Authorities raided two homes in residential neighborhoods Wednesday morning and seized more several hundred pounds of the most dangerous of illegal fireworks. Although all firecrackers are illegal in Contra Costa County, officials say the contraband they found is highly explosive and not "safe and sane."
Officials say there were so many fireworks in the two homes in the 300 block of 4th Avenue in Pacheco an accidental explosion could have set off the entire neighborhood.
Authorities are still trying to assess a street value for the seized fireworks. Investigators are also working to determine how these devices were distributed.
45-year old Robert Charles Tapia is one of the two men arrested.
