PETALUMA (KRON) -- A 41-year old driver is facing felony charges for the alleged hit and run crash that left an American Canyon teenager dead.

The accident happened early Monday near Lakeville and Old Lakeville roads, southeast of Petaluma.

Investigators say Michael Scott Harmon of Vallejo was driving a 1969 Ford pickup truck south on on Lakeville Road when he ran off the road, hit an embankment and then swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a 1985 GMC pickup driven by 17-year old Jahzeel Forsen.  

A witness says he saw Harmon walk up to Forsen's truck, look inside, then flee on foot.  Police arriving on the scene found Forsen unconscious.  He later died at the hospital.

Authorities searched the area for Harmon using patrol officers and a helicopter.  Hours later investigators say Harmon called the CHP and arranged to turn himself in. After questioning, detectives put him under arrest.
