REDWOOD CITY (KRON) -- A high-risk sex offender is missing from a Redwood City mental health facility after possibly escaping through an elevator shaft.

Staff members at Cordilleras Mental Health Facility on Edmonds Road discovered 34-year old Derrick Lovell Sanders when they did a bed check early Friday morning.  Investigators think he got out through an elevator shaft.

Authorities say Sanders is a parolee with a history of violence, weapons violations, and sex offenses.  He is currently awaiting trial on a misdemeanor charge involving sex with a minor in San Mateo County.

Sanders is 5’11, 165 lbs. and was last seen wearing a red polo shirt and blue jeans.  He doesn't have a permanent home but is known to hang out in both San Mateo and Alameda Counties.
