SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) -- A man is in custody after he failed to yield to a police traffic stop and crashed into a building and a fire hydrant. The collision caused a geyser of water to gush into the street in San Francisco's South of Market district early Thursday morning, police said.
Officers attempted to pull the male driver over for a minor traffic violation when he failed to stop his vehicle and crashed into a fire hydrant and then a building near the intersection of Folsom and Essex Streets at 3:43 a.m.
The collision closed Essex Street near the on-ramp to eastbound I-80, causing confusion for drivers in the area as they tried to get on the Bay Bridge.
The suspect was transported to the hospital and taken into custody, police said.
Police are investigating if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
