SAN MATEO COUNTY (KRON) – The state’s budget problems could make it harder to visit your favorite beach.
If it’s part of a state park, it could go on the budget chopping block.
In the Bay Area, the state beaches that would be affected are all in San Mateo County. This includes Gray Whale Cove, Montara Beach, Half Moon Bay Beach and San Gregorio, Pomponio, Pescadero and Bean Hollow Beaches.
KRON 4’s Terisa Estacio went to Montara State Beach where officials said the budget crisis could force the closure of bathrooms, the removal of trash cans and the cutback of people to monitor congestion in parking lots.
One park spokesperson told Terisa it is difficult to spell out just how bad things might get, but notes that without certain park employees to help out the potential for disaster is certainly there, it just depends on the type of visitor.
Officials say it only takes a few people leaving garbage behind to turn a pleasant getaway into a dismal trip for many.
Park officials are asking the public to be respectful of nature and make sure to not leave anything behind or take anything that does not belong to them.
