2 Dead After Standoff at San Jose Home

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Police say two people are dead after an hourslong standoff at a San Jose home.

The incident began around 8:30 a.m. Monday after a 39-year-old gunman barricaded himself inside a townhouse with a 35-year-old woman. Officers who surrounded the home heard several loud bangs from inside the home around noontime.

Officers entered the home more than five hours after the standoff began and found the suspect and hostage dead of gunshot wounds.

Police spokesman Jermaine Thomas says it appeared to stem from a "family dispute," but he won't confirm the relationship between two. Police say the woman's 9-year-old daughter had escaped the house without injury.

Neighbors and family members told the San Jose Mercury News that the woman was the suspect's ex-wife and that they had been in a bitter custody battle over their daughter.

I feel sorry for the little girl that now has no parents. How does anger against each other get this bad, where you dont even think about the child you share together. Awful
