NAPA COUNTY (BCN) -- Cal Fire Battalion Chief Pete Munoa says two separate brush and  woodland fires within five miles in the Pope Valley area of Napa County Wednesday afternoon are suspicious and under investigation.

The first fire near Butts Canyon Road and James Creek burned 10  acres of grass and woodland. It was reported at 12:50 p.m. and was contained  at 1:47 p.m., Munoa said.

The fire moved quickly along slopes in the area and residences  were threatened but none burned, Munoa said.

Four aircraft, seven engines and two hand crews responded to the  fire. Significant mop-up will last into tonight, Munoa said.

The second fire in the Chiles & Pope Valley Road and Pope Canyon  Road area northeast of Angwin burned six acres of timber, Munoa said.

It was reported at 1:08 p.m. and was contained at 2:41 p.m. Seven  engines, three hand crews and four aircraft responded, Munoa said.

Crews will be on the scene until at least early Thursday morning  and will patrol the area for hot spots for days to come, Munoa said.

Some residences were threatened but none burned and there were no  injuries in either fire, Munoa said.
