Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 10/29/2009 12:56:00 PM

EAST BAY (BCN) -- The California Highway Patrol is looking for anyone who may have  information about a gruesome incident that left a man dead on southbound  Interstate Highway 680 just north of Martinez Thursday morning.

The CHP received a call at 1:58 a.m. about a possible body in the  roadway on southbound Highway 680 just north of Arthur Road, CHP Officer Tom  Maguire said.

The CHP and Martinez police responded and confirmed that a  pedestrian had been struck on the roadway, probably numerous times, by an  unknown number of vehicles.

The Contra Costa County coroner's office is working to identify  the body.

The CHP is asking for help from witnesses who may have seen the  man before he was hit, or may have seen a vehicle that struck the man.

Anyone with information can call the CHP Martinez office at (925)  646-4980 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or can call the anonymous 24-hour tip  line at (800) TELL-CHP.
