SANTA ROSA (BCN) -- A Geyserville man who was arrested for allegedly killing a Cloverdale woman when he drove the wrong way on U.S. Highway 101 near Healdsburg last week will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.
Jose M. Botello-Soto, 26, is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, DUI causing death, and driving the wrong way on a divided highway causing death.
He is being held in Sonoma County jail without bail.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Botello-Soto drove the wrong way up the Old Redwood Highway off-ramp in Healdsburg around 9 p.m. Friday and entered southbound Highway 101 traveling north.
He drove his 1991 Explorer in the No. 1 traffic lane into the path of a 2008 Honda Civic driven by Crystal Carillo-Martinez, 26, of Cloverdale, according to the CHP.
Carillo-Martinez tried unsuccessfully to avoid the collision by steering to the right. After hitting the Explorer, the Honda struck the guardrail in the center median, the CHP reported. Carillo-Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Botello-Soto suffered minor injuries and was treated at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital before he was booked into the Sonoma County jail.
