RICHMOND (KRON) – Investigators say there is new evidence they believe will link suspects to the October 24th gang rape at Richmond High School.
Officials tell KRON 4’s Haaziq Madyun that DNA evidence collected from the scene of the crime will be ready sometime this week.
According to investigators at the Richmond Police Department, not only will DNA evidence establish the individuals present during the rape, but it will also connect the suspects who had sexual contact with the 16-year-old victim.
Richmond police tell KRON 4 that one of the suspects who was released due to insufficient evidence, Salvadore Rodriguez, will likely be taken back into custody once DNA evidence links him to the crime.
Additionally, investigators say fingerprint evidence will also help identify those present when the crime was taking place in a dimly lit courtyard on campus during the high school’s homecoming dance.
Police believe as many as 10 people participated while as many as 20 people may have watched the rape without calling police.
Contra Costa County prosecutors have filed rape charges against six people, ranging in age from 15-21.
