RICHMOND (BCN) -- The West Contra Costa Unified School District board will host a meeting Saturday with officials from Richmond and neighboring cities as part of its ongoing response to a violent gang rape last month at Richmond High School.
City council members from Richmond, El Cerrito, Hercules, Pinole and San Pablo will take part in the meeting, as well as Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia and other elected officialto strengthen the collaboration that needs to happen" among officials in West County to increase safety for young people at school, at home and in their communities, Trujillo said.
During the meeting, participants will be broken into small groups to discuss ways to increase collaboration across West County in terms of violence prevention, gang intervention, community and neighborhood watch programs and facility improvements, Trujillo said.
Findings and ideas from the small groups will then be reported back to the group as a whole for consideration.
The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lovonya DeJean Middle School at 3400 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond.
The sexual assault occurred Oct. 24 during the high school's homecoming dance. Police have said that as many as 10 people beat, raped and robbed the victim, a 16-year-old girl, for two and a half hours in a secluded corner of the campus while as many as a dozen other people watched.
Six people been charged in connection with the attack.
