U.C. Berkeley Investigates Police Brutality Charges in Connection with Tuition Protests
Created by Brian Shields on 11/23/2009 4:04:00 PM

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - The University of California, Berkeley is investigating allegations of police brutality against students and employees protesting fee hikes and budget cuts last week.

In a letter Monday, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau says the campus police department is looking into whether officers used excessive force when they removed protesters during Friday's demonstration.

The university also will request an independent investigation by the campus police review board.

On Monday, more than 200 students and employees rallied at Wheeler Hall to protest what they called overly aggressive tactics.

Protest organizers say officers hit demonstrators with batons and fired rubber bullets, when more than 40 protesters barricaded themselves inside the building and hundreds rallied outside Friday.

Gordon cops commit crimes
Yes Gordon some crimes are the fault of the police. The low lives are not the only ones committing crimes. Corrupt cops commit crimes too. They will use violence, excessive force against innocent law abiding citizens and then frame them to cover-up the police brutality. You are fortunate that you have lived 79 years and never been falsely arrested for a crime that a cop fabricated in order to cover up the violence, excessive force, and police brutality they use.

Gordon is right
Yes, Gordon...and if you have a mental disability, it gives you a free pass to murder, rape, get released, and murder, and rape again. The nerve, to think that we should punish those poor schizophrenic out-patients.

Why bother?
Why do the police even respond to anyone in Berserkeley? They despise the police, there, and the school doesn't support the police, or military, so why should the police even respond. I'm sure the protest was sponsored by UCB.

Criminals
23 November 2009 Dear Criminal Lover: I have reached the limit of my tolerance of the pro-criminal stance of all the Bay Area Media. Whether the print or electronic media, you are all the same: if a crime takes place it is the fault of the police. The most uncivilized in our society can do as they please to disrupt the lives of honest, law bidding citizens and it is perfectly alright with the mainstream media. Decent people can be beaten, robbed, murdered and raped and it is reported as just minor incidents. Rioters can take over public or private property and it is acceptable. If a police officer protects himself from harm or protects the public he is immediately blamed for the incident. I am 79 years old and have never had an unacceptable encounter with the police. I use the only responses that are in line with the situation. I say, “Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Maam, or No Maam.” If I do anything else I deserve to receive billy club between my eyes. That’s what all low lives should receive! Perhaps your attitude is because you have more in common with criminals than with the decent members of our society. Respectfully yours, Gordon Brandt 1425 Cedar Place Los Altos, CA 94024 650 968-0259
