Pilots Group Against New Power Plant Nearby Byron
Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 11/27/2009 9:19:00 AM

BYRON, Calif. (AP) - A private pilots association that helped to wage a successful battle against a proposed power plant in Hayward is moving to block a similar plant near Byron.

The California Pilots Association is opposing a proposed 200-megawatt plant that Mariposa Energy LLC wants to build south of Byron Airport.

In its application with California regulators, the company says the plant would have minimal environmental impact.

But a spokesman for the California Pilots Association says contaminants released from the proposed plant could affect the engine performance of planes, as well create visibility problems.

The pilots association was one of several groups that also opposed a new power plant near Hayward Executive Airport.

An application for that plant was declined by the California Energy Commission.
