REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - A man who was wanted for eight years in the fatal stabbing of a high school student from Daly City is being held without bail after pleading not guilty to murder charges.
Erick Morales entered his plea during a brief court appearance Thursday. He is one of two men accused in the killing of 15-year-old Quetzalcoatl Alba on May 21, 2001.
The 28-year-old Morales had escaped capture until he was stopped by police in New York on suspicion of drunken driving in October.
A fingerprint check revealed he was wanted for the killing of Alba.
The second suspect in the case, 30-year-old Reynaldo Maldanado, was arrested in Miami in 2007.
His trial began earlier this year but has been continued while prosecutors decide whether to try the two men together.
