SAUSALITO (KRON) -- There's good news for Abagnale the Sea Lion. Officials at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito says the animal, who was rescued from Moss Landing after fishing line got wrapped around his head, is doing well and eating 20 pounds of herring a day.
Center workers managed to capture Abagnale after several days of trying. Not surprisingly, officials say the sea lion is still pretty agitated when around humans. The center is keeping the rescued animal in the pack pen area in an effort to keep his stress levels down.
Veterinarians are also giving him a regimen of antibiotics. While his survival is not assured, doctors say they're hopeful the sea lion will make a full recovery and be able to be released back into the wild. There will be a follow-up exam later this week to check on how well Abagnale is recovering from his wounds.

| For those who find no worth in animals, nor feel any responsibility for their suffering, I would suggest you read:
ECCLESIASTES 3,4
18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them; as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast; for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth the spitit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

| Millions??? COME ON!! Im pretty sure there were not millions involved....but what do I know....Im just a stupid animal lover who thinks we should do anything we can to stop the suffering of animals... or people for that matter! Sounds like you may be doing a little suffering yourself. Maybe to make yourself feel better you could volunteer your time at these schools you speak so highly of like some of the people at the Marine Mammal center do! |

| You're obviously the only one who thinks this way. There is huge, overwhelming support of the Marine Mammal Center's tireless efforts to help this animal that was suffering and dying. How'd you like it if someone stood over you after, you'd spent 2 weeks struggling to free yourself from wire tangled around your neck and head, and just shot you? Animals count too, and if you had any intelligence or kindness you'd recognize the importance of spending "millions" on animal rescue, care, protection and rehabilitation.
If this sea lion recovers -- and it's likely he will -- he'll be released back into the wild to enjoy life like any other mammal. You are a mammal too, you know? What's your life worth?
And don't bring up "the schools" -- you're obviosuly a callous, heartless person who cares more about voicing his ugly opinion on shooting an animal than about preserving life. You don't give a damn about the school kids not "getting" the money spent on this resuce. ALL rescue efforst -- of humans and other mamamls alike -- involve "millions". Should we just shoot everybody who needs rescuing? |

| Good news. The State Of California just spent five million dollars on rescuing an injured sea lion. Yippee. With all the financial burden the state is facing, couldn't we have saved the money for the schools, and put the poor beast out of it's misery with a $1.25 bullet? Where do we draw the line? Flies and earthworms die all the time, and nobody blinks, but if it has eyelashes, then we spend millions saving it? Brilliant. |
