Many Law Enforcement Officials Outraged at Rally for Oakland Gunman
Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 3/25/2009 10:05:00 PM

ALAMEDA COUNTY (KRON) – Many law enforcement officials are openly expressing dismay that the public held a rally for gunman Lovelle Mixon in Oakland.

KRON 4’s Mark Jones spoke to Alameda County Sergeant J.D. Nelson who is outraged, “I just don’t understand how people in the community can support an individual, a criminal, who was a carjacker, who raped a 12-year-old and murdered four people. How people can rally behind him, I think it’s terrible, just terrible. Our hearts go out to the Oakland police department and to have people rally for that person who is responsible for their murder is disgusting.”

On Saturday Mixon opened fire on two officers during what appeared to be a routine traffic stop, leading to a gun fight in which two more officers died before police killed him.

The officers killed were 43-year-old Sergeant Ervin Romans, 35-year-old Sergeant Daniel Sakai, 40-year-old Sergeant Mark Dunakin and 41-year-old Officer John Hege.

Nelson also told Mark that when Mixon is mentioned, he only thinks of the victims, “The only thing that I will ever think about him for is the many numerous families and lives that he ruined. That’s what I’ll be thinking of when I think of him. What about the 12-year-old girl, how is she supposed to overcome all this? And the other victims he may have raped. And the carjacking victim in San Francisco, he has affected all those people.”

On Friday, just a day before the shooting, Oakland PD learned that DNA evidence had tentatively linked Mixon to the February rape of a 12-year-old girl.

The event, organized by the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement, started at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Uhuru House on 7911 MacArthur Boulevard.

According to the organization’s website, the march was designed to “Uphold the Resistance of the African Community as Represented by Brother Lovelle Mixon.”

dont degrade our slain officers
kron 4 i hope you can show some type of professional restraint and refrain from airing the chants these racist individuals are spewing from there illiterate mouths. thats right racist. it is an unfortunate circumstance in todays society that when you are born of color, you are born with a built in excuse to never take responsibility for your actions and always be able to blame your actions on the white man. it must be a wonderful life when you are held accountable for your actions you can scream "RACISM" and losers like jesse, al and burris kick down your door with the promise of millions of dollars. it must be nice to never have to man up. to never show the world the true measure of what it takes to be a real man. mixon, i must thank your family for "correcting" what i thought was the definition of "MONSTER." i cannot believe that your family of illiterates would some day redefine the word "MONSTER." monster no longer defines someone who is a career criminal. monster no longer defines someone who rapes an innocent child. and monster no longer defines someone who is a sociopathic murderer. who knew that a lowly family with no morals or social responsibility would some day correct websters dictionary. i know that no matter what has happened in oakland nor what is said in print or on the air, the sociopathic society that exists in areas like oakland will unfortunatly never change. so please remember mixon family, you alone are changing the dictionary that the white man uses. you alone prove every time you open your mouth that "A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE" as quoted from a long ago commercial paid for by the NAACP. but i know you do not even know what those letters stand for. ask jesse, ask al or just call burris, i think might remember what that acronym stands for.

Are you friggin serious
How in the hell can you compare four officers being shot by one "woe is me I don't want to go to jail, criminal to all of the past history of African Americans? This case isn't about race and stating its some kind of justification for the bart shooting just shows the moronic thinking of some of those around us. To the families of the officers my heart goes out to you, as you will never be the same and for that I'm sorry on behalf of all of us, who actually give a damn about you. To the others who are praising this heinous man take a good look at yourselves think hard. Oh thats not an option as shown by some comments left on here. Thank you to all who do their best to keep us safe.

I don't chalk this up to race. I chalk it up to a swarm of uneducated individuals. Yes, what they chant exists, I don't doubt it. But you picked the WRONG person to cry your cause for. This POS is a murderer and rapist of YOUR OWN PEOPLE, yet you speak of him as your brother. The mother should be ashamed of herself for showing her face and marching. If this were my child, I'd blame myself for my inability to raise my child correctly and teach him right from wrong. The fact that this 'man' had no morals and killed 4 officers and raped a child disgusts me to the type of woman she was. Educate yourself...and that doesn't necessarily mean going to school. Go to church, gain some morals and respect for yourself so you can help your other children avoid the cycle they're in. She is a perfect example of why I work so hard with my BLACK children to teach them what NOT to become.
