The Quake of '89 disrupted lives across the Bay Area.  From an interrupted World Series to the tragedy of the Cypress Freeway collapse to the 30-day closure of the Bay Bridge, the quake changed the Bay Area in many ways. As we mark the 20th anniversary of this event, KRON 4 wants to hear your memories of the earthquake and the days that followed.  Where were you when the quake struck?  What was your initial reaction when you felt the earth move?  How prepared were you for the quake and the days that followed?  How did the Quake of 89 change you, your family, and the Bay Area?

When an earthquake collapsed two 50-foot sections of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge during the 1989 World Series, the nightmares of hundreds of thousands of commuters who cross the Depression-era span each day were brought to life. On this 20-year anniversary of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that killed 63 people, injured almost 3,800 and caused up to $10 billion damage, the bridge reconstruction has become the largest public works project in California history and is still years from completion.
